When you receive a dental implant, you will plan on having at least one surgical procedure to place your implant post into your jawbone. Dr. Samuel Koo performs implant surgery as well as other procedures necessary for you to replace your missing tooth or teeth with an implant. If you have any questions about dental implant surgery in Kennebunk, Maine, or want to make an appointment with our experienced periodontist, call Kennebunk Center for Dentistry at 207-985-7944.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Koo will determine if you have sufficient bone tissue to receive an implant. If not, he will help you make arrangements for you to receive a bone graft. If you do not need a bone graft, or if you already have enough supporting bone tissue to receive an implant, he will schedule an implant placement surgery.
Your implant placement surgery will consist of our periodontist surgically inserting an implant post into your jawbone. Our office utilizes the most advanced imaging technologies, including cone beam imaging with software allowing 3D reconstruction and predictive implant places, and we digitally scan you in order to create a surgical stent and ensure the highest level of 3D accuracy for implant positioning.
Dr. Koo will carefully remove your damaged tooth or other tissues and insert the implant post into your jawbone to replace your tooth root. He will make a cut to open your gum and expose the bone before carefully drilling into the bone and inserting the implant post into your jaw. Following this, there will be a period of healing in order for the post to bond with your jawbone, a process known as osseointegration.
You will be provided with detailed post-op instructions to help you heal and recover. After you heal, we will make molds of your teeth and jawbone in order to place your abutment and implant restoration.
