If you have previous had a root canal treatment and your tooth becomes infected again, our endodontist may recommend a periapical surgery to correct the problem and restore your oral health. We welcome you to contact Kennebunk Center for Dentistry at 207-985-7944 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Luke Harden and find out if periapical surgery in Kennebunk, Maine, is the right option for you.
Periapical surgery is typically recommended to treat leaky root canal fillings when the root tip is surgically accessible. When you receive this procedure, our endodontist will provide you with a local anesthetic to help you feel more comfortable and minimize your discomfort. A small incision will be made to expose the tip of your tooth root, and the infected and inflamed tissue will be removed. Dr. Harden will carefully examine the tooth root for any further problems. If no fractures or other problems are present, a filling will be placed at the roto tip to seal the root canal and prevent further infection. The surgical site is then sutured with dissolvable stitches.
While swelling and pain are usually minimal, our office will provide you with post-op care instructions to help you heal and recover and to reduce your discomfort following your procedure.
